Most Team Meetings Are a Waste of Time ⏰

I’ve attended my fair share of regularly scheduled team calls—as both an attendee and an emcee. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the downright ugly.

The best meetings all share one thing: they feel personal. There’s always plenty to discuss, and time is valuable, but the most impactful agenda item? Making space for personal updates.

One simple way to do this: “High of the Week.” 60 seconds to share the best thing (or just something good) that has happened in your world since the last time we met.

Why does this matter? Because work is personal. It reminds your team that they’re more than just employees. It creates a safe and structured space for people to share what’s important to them and what brings them joy. These seemingly small moments build trust, strengthen communication, and turn coworkers into teammates. One team member even told me it was the most impactful thing we did—“making us a stronger team, who are truly invested in each other.”

I get it—work isn’t supposed to be personal. There’s always data to review, policies to update, and changes to discuss.

But here’s the reality: the strongest teams aren’t just a collection of individuals completing tasks. They are built on trust, connection, and shared purpose.

Want more engagement, better communication, and a team that actually looks forward to meetings? Start by making space for the people behind the work. Try it in your next meeting—just 60 seconds.

You might be surprised by the impact 💡
