One Thing That Puts You Back in Control

"I just want to have control of my schedule!"

That was the exasperated cry as another day slipped through their fingers.

Tasks kept piling up. Fires needed putting out. People needed things.

"What do I do? How do I get control?"

A fair question—maybe even one you've asked yourself.

In that moment, generic advice wasn't going to help. There was no Executive Assistant shielding them from interruptions. There is no magic "easy" button.

So I asked: "What's your one thing?"

A pause. Then, a long list started forming—like it always does.

That's normal.

But I pressed again:

"What's the one thing that, no matter what, must get done today?"

We tend to focus on everything we could do. That's where the overwhelm kicks in.

But how often do you stop to ask yourself:

What's the one thing I must do today?

Start there.

Even when you can't delegate. Even when you can't say no. Even when your day gets hijacked.

Ruthlessly protect your one thing.

It doesn't have to be done at sunrise. There's no perfect time of day to complete your one thing. It just needs to get done.

Get it done, and give yourself grace.

You may not finish everything, but you did the thing that mattered most.

Then do it again tomorrow.

Little by little, that's how real momentum builds.
