Show Up Like Mom Did

This weekend, we’re surrounded by pink, flowers, and a rush of sentimental purchases from Etsy, all in celebration of Mom.

It made me pause and reflect: What did I learn from my mother?

There were many lessons, but the one that shaped me most was simple: she showed up.

Whether volunteering for school events, chaperoning field trips, or just being there to pick me up when most kids rode the bus, she never missed a chance to be present. At the time, I appreciated it… Sometimes wished for less of it. But looking back, that consistent presence was powerful.

As a parent, the instinct to be involved and to show up is second nature. It was never a question, just a truth I inherited.

That lesson didn’t stop at home. It carried into my leadership:

Be an active leader. Show up. Know what your people need, sometimes before they do.

Love your people. Support them. Volunteer the extra effort.

You might not have brought them into this world, but you’re responsible for how they move through it under your leadership.

Thanks, Mom.
