What About March?

A neighborhood covered in snow with a dog looking out

A cold and dreary winter day, when a reminder of the progress made is especially needed.

There are few times during the year when we are inclined to count our blessings and be filled with gratitude. For goodness' sake, the name of the day is about giving thanks.

The Turkey, mashed potatoes, and Aunt Paula's pumpkin pie are all good reminders to slow down and be grateful.

But what about in March? When it’s been snowing sideways for five months here in Western NY and you’re grinding through the days just trying to keep your head straight?

We tend to fall into the trap of wanting, wishing for more. For different.

We focus on the gap between where we are and where we want to be.

Looking back to see how far we've come? We stuff that aside and leave that to the day with the turkey.

There’s a fine line between wanting more and appreciating what is.

Between pursuing growth and recognizing progress.

Achievers tell themselves, If I’m not doing more, I’m falling behind.

This week, many of us will naturally lean towards gratitude.

This isn't your sign to wish or want for anything more than perhaps another slice of pie.

It's a reminder to take stock of where you are today. Note it. Write it down. Tuck it away.

And in March, April, or whenever you're stuck in ‘I wish world’, look back and remember how far you've come.
